Many Mesoamerican pyramids were built with a core of rubble in the middle, surrounded by adobe-brick walls and covered with limestone. These sturdy, local materials helped the pyramids last for centuries.
Limestone is a sedimentary rock made mostly of calcium carbonate from shells and marine fossils, while adobe bricks are a human-made material formed from clay-rich soil, sand, and straw dried in the sun.
