Table salt comes from a rock called Rock Salt, which is made up of crystals of the mineral halite. When halite is mined and purified, it becomes the salt we sprinkle on food.
Halite is a mineral form of sodium chloride (NaCl) that grows in cubes and can form large rock salt deposits. As a mineral, it is often white or clear and tastes salty when dissolved in water.
